My 6400 series HP Envy keeps going to sleep after a job. I don't have time to unplug, reboot, and wait for it to go through the opening up bells and whistles everytime. I'm doing multiple copies so must have it available. What's going on?

As an aside, I've always before loved HP printers and bought many of them. But the 6000 Envys and subsequent series are a royal pain. They don't give me indication of what their problem is except lights that, when I look them up, are vague and Not helpful. I have 2 that I fight with everytime.I print. One at home, and one at my  job. . Both are less than 2 yr

Hi @SharonSher,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Envy 6400 printer might be set to automatically go into sleep mode after completing a job. This is common with energy-saving features but can be frustrating, especially when you're trying to print multiple copies in a row.

You can try the following steps to prevent it from going to sleep too quickly.

Adjust Sleep Settings:

  • Go to the printer’s Settings or Control Panel (if it has a display).
  • Navigate to Power Options or Energy Settings.
  • Look for a setting like Auto Sleep or Sleep Mode and adjust the time or disable it if possible.

Check the HP Smart App:

  • If you use the HP Smart app, open it and check for any settings related to sleep mode or power-saving. There may be options to control the sleep behavior.

Firmware Update:

  • Ensure the printer’s firmware is up to date. Sometimes, issues like this are resolved through a software update. You can check for updates in the printer's menu or through the HP Smart app.

Unplugging/Rebooting:

  • I know this isn't ideal, but if the printer continues to behave erratically, you might try a soft reset by turning it off, unplugging for 30 seconds, then plugging it back in. This can sometimes help clear out lingering issues.

Regarding the difficulty you've been experiencing with the 6000 series and other recent HP printers, I understand your frustration. HP's newer models have introduced some changes to features and settings that aren’t always clearly documented.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
