@glennbreslin, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP Printer 8020 Offline Issue!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8020 printer is showing as offline and you're unable to print from your Lenovo laptop, follow these troubleshooting steps:

Check Printer and Network Connection:

  • Ensure that your printer is turned on and connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your laptop. You can check the network status from the printer's control panel.
  • Make sure there are no physical issues like paper jams or low ink.

Set Your Printer to Online:

  • On your Lenovo laptop, search for "Printers & Scanners" and open the settings.
  • Find your HP printer in the list, select it, and click on "Open queue".
  • In the print queue window, go to the Printer menu and check if "Use Printer Offline" is unchecked.

Restart Devices:

  • Restart your printer, router, and laptop. This can often resolve connectivity issues.

Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers:

  • Go to the HP Support website and download the latest printer drivers for your 8020 model.
  • Uninstall the current printer software from your laptop and then install the new drivers.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from the HP website. This tool can detect and fix many common printing, scanning, and connectivity issues.

Check Firewall Settings:

  • Sometimes, firewall settings can block communication between your laptop and the printer. Check your firewall settings to ensure that your printer is not being blocked.

Assign a Static IP Address:

  • Access your printer’s network settings and assign a static IP address. This can help maintain a stable connection.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi Zoey, your information was helpful.  My son in law arrived this prior weekend and told me to download and install HP Smart to my computer.  That alone resolved the issue.   Open the Queue is also available on HP smart for my printer.  I can use that in the future, if any other issues arrive.  Your immediate response from HP was excellent support.   Thank You !!!
