Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂 I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers. For you to have the best experience on the HP forum, you could also visit our HP Forums Guide for First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. I see from your post you need assistance related to your HP OfficeJet printer. No worries, I'll be glad to assist you.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Could you please let me know the correct printer model number? Is it OfficeJet 6500A or OfficeJet 8500A.
Have you tried to use the old ink cartridges and check if that works.
If you're using 8500A printer, this printer uses HP 940 cartridges where as HP OfficeJet 6500A printer uses 920 Ink cartridges.
For more details, please find the printer specifications for 8500A printer. and this one for 6500A printer.
As I understand you have already tried updating the printer firmware, cleaning the cartridges as well as the printhead and still having the issue, this looks like a possible hardware failure with the printer. However, I would suggest you try these steps here:
I would suggest here is to do a hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.
Remove all the ink cartridges and then try to perform a hard reset on the printer.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Remove USB cable, if present.
Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.
Now insert the ink cartridges and then try to print a test page and check if it works.
Alternatively, I would suggest here is to follow the steps suggested in the support document for - HP Officejet 6500A e-All-in-One Printer Series - 'Ink Cartridge Problem' Message Displays on the Pro...
If you have tried the steps suggested and still having the issue. As we diagnosed and found it is a hardware issue with the product. I will share you few details through a private message about the service options dedicated to your product, please watch your inbox for more information.
I hope this helps resolve this issue completely,
Regards,
