Hi @rjb68, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Sounds like your HP ENVY 4500 has decided to take an unexpected wireless vacation—no forwarding address, no postcard, just a big ol’ "offline" sign! 😅 But don’t worry, we’ll reel it back in.👍
Since you've already tried the classic "turn it off and on again" routine (a true tech ritual), let's level up our troubleshooting game:
🛠️ Mission: Bring the Printer Back Online
Double-check the Wi-Fi connection – Make sure your printer and computer are on the same Wi-Fi network band (2.4 GHz is your best bet, as some printers don’t vibe with 5 GHz).
Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor – This handy little tool from HP can work some behind-the-scenes magic and fix connection woes. Download it here.
Re-enable Wi-Fi Direct (at least for testing) – Even if you don’t usually use it, turning it on might help in a pinch.
Give your IP address a VIP seat – Set a static IP for the printer via the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) to keep it from wandering off.
Forget & Re-add the printer – On your computer, remove the printer, restart, and re-add it via Devices & Printers or Printers & Scanners settings.
Check for sneaky firewalls – If your security software is feeling overprotective, it might be blocking the printer’s attempts to communicate. Try temporarily disabling the firewall and see if that helps.
