Deskjet 2630

I have a new Hp Deskjet printer 2630 which constantly alternates between working perfectly and refusing to do anything - it just says it is in error mode.  I tried the troubleshooter and it eventually said it couldn't help.  The only other option seems to be unintalling everything on my computer - I am not techy and not prepared to do this as I have not got the faintest idea what is important and what is not.  I'm getting really infuriated by this - how is it possible that it just starts and stops without anything having changed in between?  Please help!

Hi! @Musicele, Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community!

I understand when you print from your printer you keep getting error mode on your PC.

Don't worry I'd like to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Does the issue persist when you make a copy from your printer?

As you mentioned when you print from your printer you keep getting error mode on your PC.

Please share the operating system you are running on your PC to assist you better.

Try few steps recommended below.

Hard reset on the printer, router, computer and other devices on the same network.

The following steps temporarily disconnect network and Internet connections and require restarting your computer. Complete any tasks or downloads in progress before continuing.

1. Press the Power button on the printer to turn it off.

2. Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

3. Disconnect the power cord from the wireless router.

4. Turn off the computer.

5. Wait for 30 seconds.

6. Reconnect the power cord to the wireless router.

7. Wait for 30 seconds, or until the router is fully on and ready

8. Turn the computer back on.

9. Wait for the computer to reload

10. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

11. Turn the printer back on.

Let’s first try and make a “photocopy” to determine whether the issue is with the printer or not. Place a document on the scanner glass and choose “Copy” option. If the printer is making a good copy, then the printer hardware is fine.

If you are still unable to print, press the wireless icon on the front panel of the printer (should be just to the right of the display), and confirm that the printer is showing "connected".

Also, Try uninstalling the drivers from root level on your PC and install the full feature printer software.

In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.

Select your HP printer.

Select Uninstall.

In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.

In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”

Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.

Type printui.exe /s and click OK.

Click on Drivers tab.

Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click remove at the bottom.

Select OK.

Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.

Close Devices and Printers.

Update the full feature printer software using this link: https://hp.care/2GuxjIY

Also, download and run print and scan doctor on your PC and let me know the results.

Refer this article to know how to run print and scan doctor on your PC.

If the issue still persists after trying out the steps try updating the printer firmware and check if it helps.

If the solution provided worked for you, please mark accepted solution for this post.

Let me know if this works!

Have a great day! 🙂

Re: my deskjet 2630 keeps saying it is in error mode and won't print (HP Support Forum Subscription Update)

Hi Mr Robot

I made no changes at all to my printer.  I can still take photocopies without any difficulty – it is printing from a document on the computer or a laptop which is the problem.  We have Windows 10.  I don’t know what ‘hard reset’ means so can’t do that – or is that what you have described below?  My internet provider said never to turn off the wifi so I don’t know if I should do that.  The wireless icon is not to the right of the display but underneath it – I have a Desket 2630.  If I press it it just turns on and off – it doesn’t tell me anything.   I have absolutely no idea how to ‘uninstall drivers from root level’ -  what does Windows key with R combo even mean?

I have bought a basic home printer and you seem to need to be a computer programmer to get it to work – completely ridiculous.  How about giving us a help line to call?  I am deeply unimpressed and incredibly angry about the amount of time I have wasted trying to get this wretched printer to work.  Your website is absolutely shocking  - impossible to find anything that helps.  I am not prepared to tinker with my pc on the off chance that it might help the printer – when it probably won’t and will probably just ruin my pc.

I would be delighted if you would share my frustrations with whoever makes decisions about providing support for your products.    I will advise everyone I know to avoid HP products given my experience – please remember that most people do not spend their lives trying to fix techy problems and therefore are looking for something simple that WORKS.

Yours,
