@vhowie, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're experiencing issues with garbled and unclear printing on envelopes using your HP ENVY Inspire 7955e, even after reinstalling the drivers. Let's walk through some steps to help resolve this:
Check Envelope Type and Loading
- Ensure you're using compatible envelopes (avoid glossy, textured, or thick envelopes).
- Load envelopes correctly:
- For front-loading trays: Front of envelope facing down, flap on the left.
- Adjust the paper width guides snugly against the envelope edges.
Use Correct Print Settings
- In your print dialog (e.g., from Microsoft Word):
- Select the correct envelope size (e.g., #10).
- Choose Plain Paper or Envelope as the paper type.
- Set print quality to Best for sharper output.
Run Print Quality Diagnostic
- On your printer or via the HP Smart app:
- Go to Settings > Tools > Print Quality Report.
- Check for streaks, missing lines, or misalignment.
- If issues are found, run Printhead Cleaning and Alignment.
Update Firmware and Drivers
- Even if drivers were reinstalled, ensure they are the latest versions: Official HP® Support
Try a Different Application
- Sometimes, formatting issues arise from the app used. Try printing from:
- WordPad (pre-installed on Windows)
- HP Smart App or Microsoft Word
Check for Hardware Issues
- If the issue persists across apps and settings:
- Try printing on plain paper with the same content.
- If plain paper prints fine, the issue may be envelope-specific (thickness, texture, etc.).
- If not, it could indicate a hardware or ink system issue.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
