@bpb788, Welcome to the HP Support Community – it’s great to have you here!

I appreciate you taking the time to share your question. I'm more than happy to assist with this and provide a solution that works for you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 7720 printer is showing “Idle” status, it usually means the printer is not actively printing and is waiting for a job. However, if you're unable to print or the printer seems stuck in idle, here are some steps to help resolve the issue:

Check Printer Connection

  • USB Connection: Ensure the cable is securely connected to both the printer and PC.
  • Wi-Fi Connection:
    • Make sure the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your PC.
    • You can check this on the printer’s control panel under Wireless Settings.

Restart Devices

  • Power off the printer and unplug it for 30 seconds.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Set Printer as Default

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Select your HP OfficeJet Pro 7720.
  • Click Set as default.

Clear Print Queue

  • Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click your printer > See what’s printing.
  • Cancel any stuck print jobs.

Reinstall Printer Driver

  • Uninstall the printer from Settings > Printers & scanners.
  • Download and install the latest driver using HP Easy Start: Official HP® Support

Check for Windows Updates

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update and install any pending updates.

Additional Tips

  • Ensure the printer is not in Sleep Mode. Tap the screen or press a button to wake it.
  • If using third-party software, try printing directly from a basic app like Notepad or Word to test.

I hope your issue is now resolved. If not, feel free to reply and we’ll continue helping until everything’s sorted!
