Hi@ CarlD5670,
Good Day. Thank you for posting your query in the HP community. I read the post regarding the printer not printing in color which happened after a driver update.I will be delighted to assist you here.
Superb description and spectacular troubleshooting and commendable diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂
For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:
- Did you try making copies directly from the printer in color to check if it copies correctly?
- Please provide the operating system and its version installed on the computer?
- Is it a Windows PC or a MAC computer?
For a start please try these steps:
Please make 1 copy in color directly from the printer and check if it copies correctly.
If does then you just need to uninstall the printer software and reinstall it.
This should do the trick for you.
If the operating system happens to be Windows then follow these steps:
- Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)
- Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)
- Go to devices and printers, select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.
- Click on print server properties.
- You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there if any.
- Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.
- Restart the PC.
- Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,
- Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.
- It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).
- If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.
- Ignore the Regedit option if it cannot be done.
- Restart the PC again.
- Then download the latest full feature driver from http://hp.care/2tQKLk2 and install it on the computer after selecting the correct operating system.
- Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.
- This should fix the issue for you.
- If the Computer is a MAC then reset the mMacprinting system from this link: http://hp.care/2s1Aa0C and then download the printer software from the same link after selecting the correct operating system. This should do the trick for you.
Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat. 🙂
Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes. To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.
Take care and have a blessed week ahead. 🙂

Greetings @khairhys2000,
Welcome to HP Forums and Thanks for the post.
I understand that you are unable to print in color and the printer is setup wireless.
Not to worry, I will be glad to help.
Are you able to make a copy in color?
Is there enough ink in the color cartridge?
Are you using genuine HP ink?
What is the operating system on your computer?
How is the printer connected to your computer? (USB or wireless.)
If you are using a Windows computer, please follow the procedure mentioned below.
Request you open control panel on your computer by doing a right-click on the Windows button.
Open devices and printers in the Control Panel.
Right-click on the printer and select printing preferences.
On the Printing preferences pop up window that comes up.
Click on the Paper/Quality tab and select Color and then click on Ok.
You can also refer to this HP article for assistance to print only in black.
If you are using a MAC computer click here.
Let me know how it goes.

I have the same problem and have followed the procedure described to rectify this but the printer preferences window and paper/quality tab doesn't have a black or colour option.
This has only started happening since an updated software driver was installed from the HP website. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver and the same happens.
Please help.
Regards
Carl

I have a very similar problem, on my Mac it prints out in colour just fine. Yet on a desktop Windows 10 computer, and a Windows 10 laptop it doesn't print in colour at all, there is no option to set as colour or black and white.
I have uninstalled as directed 10 times now and still no joy. I really don't know what else to do.
