I've restarted my modem, printer and computer.  It looks like my computer and printer might be connected (ink level is visible in HP Smart app)  but I still can't print any documents.  My computer shows that my printer is in an error state.  I've restarted my printer again.  Nothing seems to work.  Both of my devices are on the same network.

I recently moved into a new house, I didn't have any issues with this at the old house.   I do have a different spectrum modem, both are connected.   In order to print, I have to save a document to my thumb drive and plug that thumb drive directly into my printer.

At my old house I was also able to use air print from my phone.  Now my printer wont show up.  To print from my phone, I have to email it to my computer, transfer to a thumb drive and then plug the thumb drive into my printer directly.

Please help me achieve the convenience I used to have!!

Hi @ckaiser126 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the printer is experiencing network-related issues due to the move and new modem setup. Let’s go through a step-by-step process to restore full functionality, including wireless printing from your computer and phone:

1. Verify Printer and Network Configuration

  • Check the printer's network connection:
    • On the printer’s control panel, navigate to Settings > Network Setup > Wireless Settings.
    • Ensure the printer is connected to the correct WiFi network.
    • Print a Wireless Network Test Report from the printer to confirm the connection.
  • Verify the IP Address:
    • Check the printer’s IP address (e.g., 192.168.x.x) on the Wireless Network Test Report.
    • Ensure it matches the network subnet used by your modem/router.

2. Update Printer Port Settings on Your Computer

Remove and re-add the printer:

  1. Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  2. Right-click your printer and select Remove device.
  3. Re-add the printer:
    • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners > Add a Printer.
    • Select your printer from the list. If it doesn’t appear, click The printer I want isn’t listed, then use the printer's IP address.

Verify the printer port:

  1. In Devices and Printers, right-click your printer and choose Printer Properties.
  2. Go to the Ports tab and ensure the printer is assigned to a Standard TCP/IP Port corresponding to its IP address.

3. Reconfigure the Wireless Setup

If the above steps don’t resolve the issue, reconfigure the wireless connection:

  1. On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Network Setup > Wireless Setup Wizard.
  2. Follow the prompts to reconnect the printer to your WiFi network.

4. Fix AirPrint Issues (Phone)

If your printer doesn’t appear for AirPrint:

  1. Ensure your phone is on the same WiFi network.
  2. Restart your phone, modem, and printer.
  3. Check if Bonjour Service is enabled on the router:
    • Some routers block the Bonjour protocol by default. Access your router’s settings via its web interface and ensure this feature is enabled.
  4. Reset the printer's network settings:
    • On the printer’s control panel, navigate to Settings > Network Setup > Restore Network Settings and reconnect to WiFi.

5. Update Printer Firmware

Firmware updates often resolve connectivity issues:

  1. On the printer control panel, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update the Printer.
  2. Alternatively, use the HP Smart App to update the firmware.

6. Test Printing

From the Computer:

  • Open a document and print. If the printer still shows offline, try disabling the SNMP status in the port settings:
    1. Go to Printer Properties > Ports > Configure Port.
    2. Uncheck SNMP Status Enabled.

From the Phone:

  • Open a file and select the print option.
  • Ensure the printer appears in the list.

7. Reset the Printer’s Network Settings (Last Resort)

If none of the above works:

  1. On the printer, go to Settings > Network Setup > Restore Network Defaults.
  2. Reconfigure the WiFi using the Wireless Setup Wizard.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
