HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 3777 All-in-One Printer

My printer is the HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 3777. So, the problem is, when I turn on my printer and leave it for a while, it flashes the E warning, and the resume button and the wireless button are blinking. When I try to press any button, nothing happens.

When I unplug and plug the printer again, the power button goes off, and the only buttons flashing (not blinking) are the Wi-Fi- Direct, Web services, and the Start Copy Buttons. Nothing happens no matter what button I press, even the power button. It's been going on for some time now (like two months) and the printer itself is fine.  I know there is no disruption of power because some of the buttons are still flashing.

It just happened out of the blue.

Can someone please tell me how to fix it or what could the problem be?

I might not understand the entire story -

For example:

"only buttons flashing (not blinking) are the Wi-Fi- Direct, Web services, and the Start Copy Buttons"

Are the lights ON?

OR

Are the lights OFF?

OR

Are the lights flashing ON/OFF/ON?

Blinking and Flashing

Notes...

Web Services light blinks amber

This error occurs when a Web Services print job is blocked, or when HP Instant Ink is cancelled and a software message has not been acknowledged.

If both the Web Services light and the HP Instant Ink icon blink and the HP Instant Ink Service has been recently cancelled, press the Information button twice to resume printing.

If only the Web Services light blinks, an HP ePrint email print job has been blocked.

Things to Try / Consider

Ideas...

True - If Wi-Fi Direct is toggled OFF, it might not blink / flash regardless of what other lights are active.

True, too - If you are not using Wi-Fi Direct, it makes sense to have the setting toggled OFF.

If the printer seems "OK" when first switched on, then -- at that moment -- the printer is likely connected to the network, not reporting any errors, and is perhaps ready to print.

If the printer is never OK, never connected, always flashing various lights, and never responds -- not ever after the Reset (unplug for 2 minutes, plug in and start), then the printer might be suffering some type of mechanical error.  (That is a guess.)

If the printer OK for a bit -- and the printer not suffering a mechanical failure --

If the printer then seems to fall off the network (Wireless starts flashing),

Setting the printer to network defaults might help get the printer back to a place where you can re-enter the printer's correct Wireless setup.

Offline Condition

Although the printer appears to be switched on, it does not communicate with other devices on your network.

And...

  • Change the connection type to TCP/IP
  • Assign a manual / static IP address to the printer on both printer and router
  • Check that your Firewall and / or Security Software are not blocking critical parts of the installation
  • Make sure all Alerts and Notifications are switched on - this is important to catch any messages that might be issued by the printer software installation process.
  • Make sure router is updated with the latest firmware

Dual Band Network

If you are running a Dual Band Network (for example,

If your router supports it,

Create a separate SSID named network for each frequency (5GHz and 2.4GHz).

and

Connect the printer to the SSID network on the frequency / band you want it to use.

Reminder This printer series only supports connections using 2.4GHz.

In general,

  • 2.4GHz is less fussy about obstacles and supports a longer distance between router and device (printer)
  • 5GHz is faster

Hello, thank you so much for replying to my post. To provide better context, about the buttons flashing. Here is a picture of the first scenario and second scenario: The first picture happens when I first start my printer. It is not responsive, any button I press does nothing.  After restarting (unplugging the power cord), the second picture happens.

I hope this provides you with enough context about the malfunction of my printer. I would greatly appreciate your response. first scenario (before restart)first scenario (before restart)second scenario (after restart)second scenario (after restart)

You are most welcome.

The light pattern on your second image appears to be the ink alert and the Web services light.

If both the Web Services light and the HP Instant Ink icon blink and the HP Instant Ink Service has been recently cancelled, press the Information button twice to resume printing.

Unless something else is going on, perhaps the printer is tripping over a recently cancelled Instant Ink subscription.

If you did have -- and have since cancelled -- an Instant Ink subscription, it does take a while for the final close out to complete.
