Hi @jude8912
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your printer can successfully print a test page but fails to print other documents, it usually suggests there might be an issue with the print job settings, the file you're trying to print, or the printer driver.
Here are several troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue:
1. Check the Print Queue
- Sometimes, a print job may be stuck in the queue, causing other documents to not print.
- Open the print queue:
- Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog.
- Type control printers and press Enter.
- Right-click on your printer and choose See what's printing.
- If there are any jobs in the queue, cancel them by right-clicking and selecting Cancel or Delete.
- After clearing the queue, try printing again.
2. Set Printer as Default
- Sometimes, the wrong printer might be set as the default printer, which can cause issues when printing.
- Set your printer as the default:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
- Right-click on your printer and select Set as default.
- After making it the default printer, try printing again.
3. Check Document Settings
- Ensure that the document you're trying to print is not corrupted or in a wrong file format.
- Try printing a different document or file to rule out issues with the specific document you're attempting to print.
4. Check Printer Status
- Ensure that the printer is not offline.
- To check the status, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click your printer, and check if it’s set to offline. If it is, uncheck the Use Printer Offline option.
- Ensure there is no error message (e.g., low ink, paper jam) that could be preventing the print job from proceeding.
5. Reinstall Printer Drivers
Sometimes corrupted or outdated drivers can prevent printing of anything other than test pages. Reinstalling the drivers can resolve this.
- Uninstall the printer:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
- Right-click the printer and select Remove device.
I hope this helps.
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
