Hi @Puzzzler ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 7720 printer displaying a "depleted cartridge" error even after installing a new one, you can try the following steps to resolve the issue:
1. Check the Cartridge Installation
- Ensure proper installation: Double-check that the new ink cartridge is installed correctly. Make sure it's clicked into place and properly aligned.
- Remove and reinsert: Gently remove the cartridge and reinsert it, making sure it's seated properly.
2. Clean the Cartridge Contacts
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Remove the ink cartridge.
- Clean the copper contacts on the cartridge and the printer with a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water.
- Let them dry completely before reinstalling the cartridge.
3. Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer, then unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for at least 1-2 minutes.
- Plug the printer back in, turn it on, and check if the error message persists.
4. Check for Firmware Updates Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Make sure your printer's firmware is up to date, as outdated firmware can sometimes cause compatibility issues with new cartridges.
- You can check and update the firmware using the HP Smart app or HP website.
5. Perform a Printer Reset
- Sometimes, resetting the printer to its default settings can clear errors:
- On the printer's control panel, navigate to Settings > Printer Maintenance.
- Select Restore Defaults or Reset Printer.
6. Try a Different Cartridge
- If the issue persists, try using another new ink cartridge. Sometimes, even new cartridges can be defective.
7. Check for Printer Errors
- Run a Print Quality Diagnostic or check for any other error codes that may provide more insight.
