HP Officejet Pro 6978

on the printer screen message "scanner has become damaged & cannot copy or scan-contact HP support".

HP support site is terrible, confusing. Can't get through even to chat with HP person.

This 6978 is the HP replacement for the lemon 6975 that had to be replaced 3 months after install.

@Dennis221

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂 I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.

Reset the printer to clear certain error states by calibrating the scanner mechanism, and then check the power source to confirm the printer is getting enough power to operate the scanner.

  1. Press the Power button to turn on the printer, if it is not already on.

  2. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.

  3. Disconnect the power cord from the power source, and then wait 30 seconds.

  4. If you previously connected the power cord to a power strip or multi-plug outlet adapter, reconnect the cord directly to a wall outlet to ensure the printer is getting enough power.

  5. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer, and then turn on the printer.

  6. If the error still displays, connect the printer power cord to a different wall outlet to determine if the original outlet is causing the issue.

If the issue still persists, for the next course of action, I have sent you a private message, for more details that cannot be shared in a public post.

Please do check your inbox on the forums page for the private message.

Followed advice for re-starting Printer by disconnecting power cord , waiting 3 min. & plugging in electrical again. Same result- get "scanner failure message. Scanner has become damaged and cannot copy or scan. For more info contact HP support". Which is what I have been doing since Jan 10, 2019. This is the LFL replacement prinetr HP sent me on 4/11/2018 which replaced my HP 6975 bought on 1/28/2018. This is within the 1 year warranty. It looks like a stall by HP to avoid replacing the lemon printer.

Do I need to go to small claims court to get HP to get a new Printer. I will take a refund of $ 183.22.

Or call me at 203 856 8873. I need this printer for tax season.

Please call or email ASAP.
