Mac Mini 2020 m1 chip
macOS 11.0 Big Sur

So I get the E9 error but I suspect it is an issue with the mac mini having the m1 chip and not being an intel cpu. Any one know what is up with this.

So tried multiple fixes I am really annoyed .  Found 5 or 6 threads with the hp envy 6055e having this e9 error. Most seem unfixable.. Tired I will go to sleep. Can't expalain the frustration this has caused me. Would take a book.

@philipma1957, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

I understand you are not able to print due to this error. An E9 error occurs when a problem occurs during a printer firmware update.

  1. Set up the wireless setup again.

For more information, go to Wireless Printer Setup.

  2. Touch the Information button .

If the information page prints, the printer is back to normal state.

If the printer fails to print the Information page, it is still in recovery mode and needs to download the firmware again.

    NOTE:

During recovery mode, the printer automatically downloads firmware from the cloud. Leave the printer about 2 hours, depending on your network speed, to complete firmware download and update.

Update the printer firmware

Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your Mac.

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Try making a standalone copy from the flatbed glass and check if that works. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.

I got the unit. Use it as stand alone made some copies worked fine. I then went to hook it up via wireless  hookup.  Got it to work it then worked fine. printed a few things it then mentioned a firmware update. It turned off back on and no longer works flashes E9 error. I did a lot of youtube and google searches along with apple searching. It appears that the hp envy 6055e does auto firmware updates and does them wirelessly if the wi fi drops out in the "wrong" spot the firmware is bricking the machine. I looked further and deeper and concluded even if I fix it wifi firmware updates are simply too risky in my location So The reurne window was open and i returned it. I am a long term hp user and have ordered 9 pc's in the last 5 years . I feel bad as the canon replacement printer was 65 dollars more. But it works and allows firmware updates via the usb cable.

Sad I as I wanted the hp much prettier printer. I thought the wireless would work but no.

Thanks for answering me.  Phil

I'm sorry to know that. You also have an option to connect the printer to a computer using a USB cable and then update the printer firmware.

Yes, if the wireless connectivity is not stable, the update can be affected when the printer is connected wirelessly.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
