I have an HP Color Laserjet M278 which continually gives a paper mismatch error when I try to print. I have tried to correct this from the software to indicate that I have 8.5 X 11 paper. Regardless it does not seem to recognize my paper size and even more frustrating is the console on the printer is non responsive. E.g. to continue press OK, but pressing OK or Cancel does not seem to work. Very disappointing.

Is the control panel responsive at other times? It may be that the control panel has failed, however we have also had problems with control panels when there are electrical issues with the outlet such as intermittent ground or swapped hot neutral. The error you are seeing is most often caused by a program asking for a certain size of paper like 8.5x11 and that size paper, while loaded in the printer, has not been configured. You must set the paper size and type for the paper tray. If the control panel is bad you would need to configure the paper size through the embedded web server if your printer is network connected, or through the management app installed on your computer if USB connected.

Thanks for responding. I was finally able to resolve this through the printer console under settings. Somehow the setting was changed to indicate that legal size paper was loaded in tray 2. I didn't even know the printer had a tray 2 since there is only one tray. Anyway after much trial and error, I fixed the problem.
