Can I use the scanner when printhead not working? Error message says " printhead missing, not detected or incorrectly installed". Have tried the various steps recommended - got me nowhere. Why do I need a printhead to scan to a PC? How can I use the scanner despite this error message?

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

 

You may try but it might not work as the hardware of the printer could be bad.

Thanks, but I had already tried that and it made no difference. Why does the scanner need a PRINThead? Is there something in the printhead that digitizes the item being scanned?

When the printer is in error state especially with the hardware, you wouldn't be able to perform any functionalities.
