@CBERKE, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8028e printer is having difficulty communicating with a new HP ink cartridge, here are some steps you can take to resolve the issue:

Check Cartridge Compatibility: Ensure that the ink cartridge is compatible with the OfficeJet Pro 8028e. The printer uses HP 910 Black, Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow Original Ink Cartridges.

Reinsert the Cartridge: Carefully remove the ink cartridge and reinsert it. Make sure it clicks securely into place.

Inspect Cartridge Contacts: Examine the metal contacts on the cartridge and the corresponding contacts in the printer for any visible debris or damage. Clean them gently using a lint-free cloth if necessary.

Restart and Reset the Printer: Power off the printer, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on. If the issue persists, try resetting the printer to factory defaults as outlined below:

  • Use the HP Smart app or the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS) to reset the printer settings.
  • Open the printer's settings, select the option to restore factory defaults, and confirm your selection.
  • Reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network if needed.

Check for Firmware Updates: Make sure the printer firmware is up to date as updates often include fixes for issues like communication errors.
