Hi @brokeprinter,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The "printer needs your attention" error message can be a bit vague, but it generally indicates that there is some issue with the printer that needs to be addressed. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue when trying to print #10 envelopes.

  • Check Envelope Size and Orientation: Make sure that the envelope size and orientation settings in your document software (Word or LibreOffice Writer) match the physical size and orientation of the #10 envelope you're trying to print. Envelopes are usually loaded in the manual feed or envelope tray with the correct orientation. Ensure that the software settings match the physical setup.
  • Envelope Feed Tray: Check if you are using the correct tray or slot for feeding envelopes in your Office Jet Pro 8028e. Envelopes are often loaded in a specific tray or slot different from regular paper. Consult your printer's user manual to locate the correct tray and ensure it's loaded properly.
  • Printer Driver: Make sure you have the correct printer driver installed on your computer. You can download and install the latest driver from the HP website for your specific printer model.
  • Restart Printer and Computer: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve printing issues. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute, and then plug it back in. Also, restart your computer.
  • Clear Print Queue: If there are any pending print jobs in the print queue, clear them out. Sometimes, a previous print job might be causing conflicts with the envelope printing.
  • Update Software: Ensure that your operating system, word processing software (e.g., Word or LibreOffice Writer), and the printer's firmware are up to date with the latest updates and patches.
  • Test with a Different Document: Try printing an envelope from a different document or program to see if the issue is specific to the document you're using.
  • Paper Type Settings: Check the paper type settings on both your printer and in your document. Envelopes may require specific paper type settings to ensure proper feeding and printing. Make sure they match.
  • Check for Paper Jams: Inspect the printer for any paper jams or obstructions that might be causing the error.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
