After changing the ink cartridges (genuine HP) the paper and ink lights are flashing along with alternating 'E' and '3'. I have followed all the troubleshooting steps for paper jam, carriage jam and reinstalled the inkcartridges several times. Also tried to reset the printer several times by plugging into wall socket. All to no avail. Any suggestions?
I have also tried to register this with HP support - the printer is still under warranty but don't know if the message was submitted - couldn't see a 'submit button, clicked on 'options' and was sent to this page.
Can anyone help please? If the printer does need to be serviced, how do I go about that?
Thanks!
Liz

Hi @Liz_M,
Thank you for posting on HP Support Forums. It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel. I came across your post and wanted to assist you. I see from the post that you are having paper and ink lights flashing, and you are getting E3 error message on your HP DeskJet Printer. Don't worry as I have a few steps to help you get through this concern,
To provide you with an accurate solution. I'll need a few more details:
Have you tried to check for any obstructions inside the printer?
Have you checked if the carriage moves freely?
Have you tried to perform a Hard reset on the printer?
In the meantime, let's perform a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.
Remove all the ink cartridges and then try to perform a hard reset on the printer.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Remove USB cable, if present.
Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.
Now insert the ink cartridges and then try to print a test page and check if it works.
Step 1: Clear all paper from the input tray
Step 2: Clear jammed paper from the output tray
Step 3: Make sure the carriage can move freely
Step 4: Make sure the ink cartridges are correctly installed
For more details, please follow this link.
Keep me posted,

that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!
Good Luck.

Thank you very much for your guidance. I have checked thoroughly and there is no paper or carriage jam. I followed your instructions exactly to hard reset the printer but, unfortunately, the problem still persists. I tried to test print from my iPhone and the printer is sending messages that there is a paper jam, but I have shone a torch into every available opening and there is no sign of any paper stuck in it.
Kind regards,
Liz
