Any pdf's that I print are printing images that should be transparent within the document layout with a black background that obscures text. How can I resolve this issue? Please advise. Thank you!

Have you tried printing a Word document or Webpages and check if the issue persists?
Update the printer firmware
Download available firmware updates from the HP website
With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware
Update your Mac Computer. Refer to the document How to update the software on your Mac(This is a third-party link. Please do not click on any ad, image, download, popup or link or anywhere else as this is a third-party link meant only for viewing information).
If the background color is selected as black, that could be the reason the printer is filling the image with black. Let's try changing the background color:
Note: Try this on a MAC
1.) Right click on the picture/document that you want to print, select Open With and select Preview.
2.) Click Preview and select Preferences.
3.) Click Windows background: and Choose the desired color.
4.) Click File and select Print.
Also, try printing pDF as an image- https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/quick-fix-print-pdf-image.html

Thank you for your assistance. Unfortunately, none of those suggestions have worked. It doesn't matter what type of document I print, or in what app (preview, acrobat, etc) I print them from, the result is the same. Any further advice would be greatly appreciated please.

Thanks for replying!
Let us try removing and re-adding the printer using AirPrint drivers. Here is how you do it-
Click the Apple menu, and then select System Preferences.
Depending on your operating system version, click Print & Fax, Print & Scan, or Printers & Scanners.
Click the name of your printer, click the Minus sign, and then delete the printer.
Click the Plus sign, and then click Add Printer or Scanner.
Click the Use or Print Using box, and then select AirPrint
Click Add to add the printer to the list.
Try to print.
Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hello.
Thank you for the suggestion, unfortunately that does not work either. The issue still persists. Can't print PDFs in colour without images appearing with black backgrounds and obscuring text, works fine in black and white though! Don't know what to do at this point now, unless you have any further potential fixes?
Thank you for your assistance.

Print an internal test page using the printer control panel and check if it happens on the internal test page. If it doesn't then try creating a new user account and try printing.
To create a new user account, refer to the document Set up users, guests and groups on Mac (This is a third-party link. Please do not click on any ad, image, download, popup or link or anywhere else as this is a third-party link meant only for viewing information).
Keep me posted for further assistance.
