I want to print black only as I have problems with the colour cartridge; the printer keeps on telling me that I have to clean it

Hello, @GERKADZ - Hope you are well!
Thank you for joining HP support forums, I would like to help 🙂
I understand that you would like to print using the black ink only with your Photosmart printer.
You cannot operate the printer if the color cartridges are completely empty. You can print while the cartridges are low on ink, but the print head will be damaged while printing when the cartridges are depleted.
You can change the print settings to use only the black ink, but since you are having issues with the color cartridges, try the steps listed here: HP Photosmart 2610 All-in-One Printer
Alternatively, try changing the printing preferences to use the black ink only:
- Go to Control Panel – Devices and printers – Give a right-click on Photosmart and select printing preferences.
- In the pop-up window, click on Print quality / Layout tab and enable the black & white printing / print in grayscale.
- Also, check under “Advanced” button - check for printing in grayscale option. Make sure it is turned on.
Let me know if that helps. Good luck!
Cheers 🙂

Thank you for the advice DVortex I indeed omitted to activate black printing under advanced. Now I did and restarted both the desktop and the printer as advised. But again it's indicated at the printer screen that I have to remove and check the colour cartridge, which is new and full by the way. The auto controll panel on my desktop also indicates that there is a problem with the colour cartridge it seems not to find it while it does indicate the ink level in the black cartridge. So it seems there might be a technical problem with the printer (photosmart 2610) maybe it's at the end of it's life.

Hello, @GERKADZ
it certainly looks like a hardware issue with the printer or with the cartridges 😞
You can try using an alternate color cartridge and see if that helps you solve the problem. If the issue persists, then you may need to go for printer service / upgrade options.
I hope that answers your concern adequately. Let me know!
Good luck 🙂

Thanks for your atempts to help me; since the printer is quite old I have decided to part from it. To-day I bought a new HP ENVY 4527 which I hope will also serve me for the same long time as the one I said goodbye to to-day.
