I called in yesterday about flashing lights on the printer display screen when I opened the paper tray to add 1 sheet to print on the back side. As soon as I closed the paper tray the flashing lights appeared on the printer display screen. I called in and the agent told me what to do. This morning I did the same thing inserted a sheet in the paper tray -( to use to print a crossword puzzle on reverse side )- flashing lights again. So I have to unplug the printer wait for a full minute to plug it back in!!!! Will I have to do this every day?
I had to return my first 7602r tank printer because it was not able to copy 2 sided to 2 sided vocabulary sheets. I believe when I called in yesterday the number on the case email sent was the serial number of the printer I had already returned. Could you please let me know if that’s true? About copying on the unused side to a sheet of paper should I , perhaps, put it in the document feeder instead? I really don’t want to return the second printer especially as this second one is able to copy 2 sided vocabulary lists correctly!
Thanks, Barbara Wiebelt

Hi @babsw2,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thanks for reaching out and sharing your experience with the HP Smart Tank 7602r All-in-One Printer. I understand how inconvenient it is to see flashing lights every time you load a single sheet into the paper tray—especially when you're just trying to print on the reverse side of a page.
1. Flashing Lights After Tray Use
This behavior may be triggered by:
- Paper size mismatch or manual feed detection.
- The printer is expecting a full stack rather than a single sheet.
To avoid this:
- Try loading at least 2–3 sheets instead of one.
- Make sure the paper guides are snug against the paper.
- Confirm the paper size and type match what's selected in the print settings.
2. Use the Document Feeder for Double-Sided Originals
If you're copying or scanning a page to print on the back side:
- Use the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) for the original.
- Load the previously printed sheet into the main tray with the correct orientation.
- This may help avoid triggering the flashing lights.
3. Firmware and Software Updates
Make sure your printer is running the latest firmware: 👉 HP Smart Tank 7600 series Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
