Hi @cathy92064

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

When your HP OfficeJet 6958 All-in-One Printer does not recognize the alignment page after installing new ink cartridges, follow these steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Ensure Correct Installation of Ink Cartridges:

  • Open the printer’s ink cartridge access door and make sure the cartridges are properly installed and locked in place.
  • Double-check that you have removed any protective tape from the new cartridges.

Clean the Scanner Glass:

  • Lift the scanner lid and clean the scanner glass with a lint-free cloth and a mild glass cleaner, making sure there are no smudges or debris that could interfere with the scan.

Reprint the Alignment Page:

  • From the printer's control panel, select Setup (gear icon).
  • Go to “Printer Maintenance” and select “Align Printheads.”
  • The printer will print a new alignment page. Make sure to use this freshly printed page for the alignment process.

Proper Placement of the Alignment Page:

  • Place the printed alignment page face down on the scanner glass. Align it according to the markings on the glass.
  • Close the scanner lid.

Restart Alignment Process:

  • After placing the alignment page correctly, press the “OK” button on the printer’s control panel to start the alignment scan.

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds before plugging it back in and turning the power back on.
  • Retry the alignment process.

Check Firmware Updates:

  • Ensure that your printer firmware is up to date. You can check for updates using the HP Smart app or by visiting the HP Support website.

Reset Printer Settings:

  • Resetting the printer to its default settings can sometimes resolve alignment issues.
  • Go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore > Restore Factory Defaults.

Manual Cleaning of Printheads:

  • If the alignment issue persists, consider manually cleaning the printheads.
  • Instructions can be found in your user manual or via the HP Support website.

If you've tried all these steps and the problem continues, there may be a hardware issue.
