More often than not when I turn the printer on, it is set to offline -- I never want that setting. I run the print and scan doctor, it fixes it, and the next time around it's the same thing all over. WHY DO I HAVE TO KEEP PUTTING THE PRINTER ONLINE? How do I fix this permanently. No, no one else changes it -- I live alone & no one else uses my computer. The only use I know of for the printer being offline is when using it as a copy machine, and I make very few copies!

@tom9940, Welcome to HP Support Community!
Update the printer firmware
Download available firmware updates from the HP website
With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates.
For more information, go to Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware.
If the issue persists, then let's try to disable the IPv6 on your printer and then assign a public DNS. Here are the steps:
• Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to get the IP address.
• Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
• Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
• Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
• Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
• Click on the radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)
Set a Standard TCP/IP port
a. Click Start/Devices and Printers. Right-click on your HP Printer. Select Printer Properties. Select the Ports tab at the top.
b. Select Add Port. Select Standard TCP/IP Port. Select New Port.
c. Follow the Add Port Wizard. Under Printer Name or IP Address, input the Static IP address you just set from the above information. Example: 192.168.1.15. The IP address will be copied under Port Name. This is OK to leave this alone or you can put in your Printer Model.
d. Select Next and Finish the Wizard.
Let me know the outcome.
Cheers 🙂
