Hi @sarkyangel,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The Event Code 71.02.4A on HP printers usually indicates a hardware or firmware issue, often related to the carriage jam or printhead movement. Here's how to fix it:

Step 1: Power Reset & Carriage Check

  1. Power on the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from both the printer and the outlet.
  3. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  4. With the printer unplugged, open the cartridge access door.
  5. Gently check the carriage, make sure it moves freely by hand. Clear any obstructions.
  6. Close the door, plug it back in (direct wall outlet), and power on the printer.

Step 2: Reseat Ink Cartridges

  1. With the printer on, open the cartridge door and wait.
  2. Remove all cartridges carefully.
  3. Keep the printer unplugged for 60 seconds.
  4. Plug it back in and turn it on.
  5. Reinstall cartridges one by one until fully seated.

Step 3: Clean Cartridge & Printhead Contacts

  1. Power off the printer and unplug it.
  2. Remove cartridges and clean the copper contacts on the cartridges and the carriage slot using a lint-free cloth with distilled water.
  3. Dry fully, reinstall cartridges, and power on.

Step 4: Update Printer Firmware

Once the error is cleared:

  • Use the HP app or the printer’s Embedded Web Server to check for updates.
  • Installing the latest firmware can prevent future failures.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
