HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer - N911a

I have a HP officejet pro 8600 printer that has been working fine.  When the printer gave me the change cartridge, I changed out the ink cartridge yesterday (951 XL) to another HP  ink (cartridge 951) and since then I cont to get a "printer failure" notice.   When I put the old HP (951 XL ) cartridge back into the printer it seems work fine.   Of course, it will not print because of the insufficient ink notice.
I have tried to restart the printer and reset the printer with no luck with the new cartidge.   The printer failure notice persists and I cannot use the printer.

Help, please

Hi @JOEhouston,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like the new HP 951 cartridge may be causing compatibility issues with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 printer. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue.

Ensure Correct Installation:

  • Double-check that the new HP 951 cartridge is properly installed. Make sure it's securely seated in its slot and that you've removed any protective tape or covers.

Clean the Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and remove the new cartridge.
  • Clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridge and the printer with a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water. Be gentle to avoid damaging the contacts.

Update Firmware:

  • Check if there's a firmware update available for your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600. Sometimes, updating the printer's firmware can resolve compatibility issues.

Use Genuine HP Cartridges:

  • HP printers are designed to work best with genuine HP cartridges. While third-party cartridges might save you money, they can sometimes cause compatibility problems. If possible, try using genuine HP cartridges.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for a few minutes and then plug it back in.
  • Turn on the printer and check if the issue is resolved.

Check for Physical Damage:

  • Inspect the new cartridge for any signs of physical damage. If the cartridge is damaged, it may not function properly.

Try Another New Cartridge:

  • If possible, try another new HP 951 cartridge to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is specific to the cartridge or if it's a broader compatibility issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
