Hi @blackbrown,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding printer head alignment on the 8630 printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Accessing the Print Heads:

  1. Turn Off the Printer: Begin by turning off your printer using the power button.
  2. Open the Printer Cover: Locate and open the top cover of the printer to access the print heads. Wait for the carriage to move and stop in the accessible position.
  3. Remove the Print Heads: Depending on your printer model, you might need to unlock a latch to remove the print heads. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen or refer to the user manual for detailed guidance.

Aligning the Print Heads:

There are multiple methods to align the print heads:

Using the HP Smart App:

  1. Install the HP Smart App from 123.hp.com or your app store if you haven't already.
  2. Load plain white paper into the tray and adjust the paper guides.
  3. Open the HP Smart App, select your printer, and navigate to the "Print Quality Tools" or "Advanced Settings."
  4. Under "Print Head Alignment," select "Start." Follow any on-screen instructions to complete the alignment process.

Using the Printer Control Panel:

  1. If your printer has a touchscreen panel, touch the "Menu."
  2. Select "Tools," then "Troubleshooting."
  3. Choose "Print Quality" and then "Print Head Alignment."
  4. Follow the printed instructions if an alignment page prints.

Using HP Printer Assistant (Windows):

  1. Open HP Printer Assistant by searching for your printer model name in Windows.
  2. Click on "Print and Scan" and then "Maintain Your Printer."
  3. Select "Align Print Heads" and follow the instructions to print an alignment page.

I hope this helps.
