Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP Smart Tank 7301 All-in-One Printer is showing a printhead failure. Is that correct? If it’s getting an error, here’s what you can try to do:
1. Check for Error Lights or Messages
- If the printer displays a blinking light pattern, refer to this guide to decode it:

2. Reseat the Printheads
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Open the ink access door and gently remove both the black and tricolor printheads.
- Wipe the copper contacts with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
- Reinsert them firmly until they click into place.
- Close the door and power the printer back on.
3. Run Printhead Cleaning
- From the printer control panel or HP Smart app, go to Settings > Maintenance > Clean Printhead.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
4. Update Firmware
- Download the latest firmware from the HP Smart Tank 7301 All-in-One Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support
