Hi @KK29,
Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you are having issues installing the printer drivers on your HP Envy printer. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.
Let’s try to fix this issue by doing a clean install. Follow the steps mentioned below:
· First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
· Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Envy printer entries and uninstall them.
· Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
· Restart your computer.
· Click the bottom-left Start button on desktop, type device manager in the search box and tap Device Manager on the menu.
· Once in device manager, click on the view tab in the top & choose “Show hidden devices”.
· Then from the device manager list, check the entries under “Printer” – If there are any entries, please right click and choose “uninstall” – In the confirm device un-install pop-up, make sure you select the box which says “Delete the driver software for this device".
· Also, check the entries under "printer queue" and "imaging devices" and repeat the same exercise. Delete any printer entry or any entry which says, “Unknown device”.
· Once done, close device-manger. Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
· Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
· Again, go to run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
· Once done you can try cleaning out your temporary files and cached files. You can try using automated applications like some cleaner software's that you can download from the internet.
· Now restart your computer again.
· Open the Run window again, type “services.msc” and press ok to get services window.
· Scroll down to “Remote Procedure Call (RPC)” – right-click and go to properties. Make sure the service is started and startup type is “Automatic”.
· Now scroll up and go to “Function Discovery Provider Host” – right-click and select properties – Change the startup type to “manual” and start the service.
· Repeat the same exercise on “Function Discovery Resource Publication” as well.
· Click on http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/EN5660/EN5660_Full_WebPack_40.11.1135.exe and install the software.
· Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
If you are still facing the issues to remove the driver, then try using a 3rd party software removal applications like "Revo uninstaller" or "Wise" to completely remove the programs.
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!
Eagerly waiting for your response!
I hope you have a good day ahead,

I tried the solotion. When I got to printui,exe/s the computer did not find it. So I did as many of the things proposed beyond that, that I could do. When the program tries to install via usb cable i get a big red x through cable which is same red x i get through wireless connection effort. When I try to "add a printer" from the devices screen on control panel, I get message
:Windows cannot installHP ENVY 5660 kernel mode print driver . To obtain a driver compatible with the version of Windows you are running, contact the manufacturer. As an aside , I have spent over 8-9 hours with a microsoft technician in control of my computer [3 different sessions] to no avail. My problem started originlly when my computer froze during an upgrade and Microsoft reinstalled windows 10 . That's when I lost printer installation and ability to install printer. For you service veterans FUBAR is the best definition of my situation.

Hi! @KK29, I am the Mr.Robot. It looks like you were interacting with @Jeet_singh, but he is out of the office today, so I'll take over from here.
I appriciate your efforts for trying out the steps.
As you mentioned the issue still persists after trying out the steps.
Try disabling the firewall and update the windows to the latest version and check if it helps.
Then try installing the printer drivers and check if it works.
Hope this helps!
Take Care! 🙂

Here are a couple of messages I got while trying to install printer. Perhaps these will give a clue.
Windows cannot install kernel mode printer driver. Contact manufacturer for driver compatible with version of windows you are using.
Printer driver was not installed. The driver is not compatible with a policy enabled on your computer that blocks 4.0 drivers.
