Hello. I am have the hardest time figuring out the issue with my printer. Its a OfficeJet 3830(however I couldnt add to my profile bc HP is saying invalid serial number).
My computer is MacOS Sonoma 14.5.
Printer is connected through wifi. When I try to print, it goes directly to queue and stays there "waiting/paused"
However using Hp Smart- if I then download the document Im trying to print, then upload it to HP Smart, it will print from there.
Which yes does work, however I work in a office with some older ladies that do not understand how to do that. They just want to be able to click print, and it print. Ive went through all the troubleshooting -deleting printer, re adding printer -checked for updates -unplugged for 5mins, -reset to factory settings, and reconnected everything.

Hi @Bencouraged,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds frustrating to deal with printer issues, especially when trying to simplify things for others. Here are a few more steps you can try to resolve the issue with your HP OfficeJet 3830 printer staying in queue on your MacOS.
Check Printer Queue:
- Open System Preferences on your Mac.
- Go to Printers & Scanners.
- Select your HP OfficeJet 3830 from the list on the left.
- Check if there are any paused or failed print jobs in the queue. If there are, try clearing them out by selecting and deleting them.
Reset Printing System:
- Sometimes resetting the printing system can resolve persistent issues.
- Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Right-click (or Control-click) on the list of printers on the left sidebar.
- Choose "Reset printing system" from the contextual menu. This will remove all printers from your list.
- After resetting, re-add your HP OfficeJet 3830 printer and try printing again.
Check Printer Settings:
- Ensure that your HP OfficeJet 3830 is set as the default printer.
- Right-click (or Control-click) on the printer in Printers & Scanners and select "Set as default printer."
HP Easy Start App:
- Download and install the HP Easy Start app from the HP website if you haven't already.
- This app can help you install the latest drivers and software for your printer, ensuring compatibility with MacOS Sonoma 14.5.
Update Firmware:
- Check if there's a firmware update available for your HP OfficeJet 3830 printer.
- Firmware updates can sometimes fix bugs and improve printer performance.
- You can usually update the firmware through the HP Smart app or the HP website.
Network Troubleshooting:
- Ensure that your printer is connected to the same WiFi network as your Mac.
- Restart your router and printer to refresh their connections.
- Check for any WiFi interference that could affect the printer's connectivity.
HP Smart App:
- Since you mentioned that printing works through HP Smart, ensure that the HP Smart app is up to date.
- Consider using HP Smart to manage and troubleshoot printer issues more easily.
If these steps don't resolve the issue, there may be deeper compatibility issues between MacOS Sonoma 14.5 and the HP OfficeJet 3830.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
