Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂
I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.
As I understand the printer continues to enter a sleep phase & presents the message - "press ON button",
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
Have you attempted to upgrade the firmware?
While you respond to that, here's what you need to do:
Click here to find and install compatible firmware updates,
Then, restart the printer and check if it works.
Keep me posted,
If the information I've provided was helpful,
give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,
that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!
Good Luck.

Hi,
I just downloaded the update and thought I updated, but it still turned off after a while. I am on a Mac Os
HP utility says "idle" and window is black, but when i tap window it lights up and i don't get the "turn on msg."
So i assume it's okay now.
this support system is not easy. I had to fiddle around to find this post again to reply to you.
Thanks,
Alice

Yes, the screen will switch for power savings.
As long as the printer able to wakeup when printe will be fine. 🙂
Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.
