Hi @patricia48i

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for explaining the issue—I'm really sorry your HP ENVY 6455e is flashing an amber light. On the ENVY 6400e series, a flashing amber (orange/yellow) light typically indicates a critical attention state, such as:

Common Causes of Flashing Amber Light

  • Cartridge problem: Missing, incompatible, or improperly seated ink cartridges
  • Paper jam or feed issue: Paper stuck or not loaded correctly
  • Printer door open: Access door not fully closed
  • Wi-Fi setup incomplete: Printer waiting for wireless configuration
  • Firmware or hardware fault: Internal error requiring reset

What to Check First

Look at the printer’s control panel or HP Smart app

  • It should display a message or icon explaining the issue.

Open the cartridge access door

  • Make sure both cartridges are installed correctly and are genuine HP 67 or 67XL.

Check for paper jams

  • Remove any stuck paper from input/output trays and inside the rear access panel.

Close all doors securely

  • Ensure the ink access door and paper tray are fully latched.

Complete Wi-Fi setup (if new or recently reset)

  • Use the HP Smart app to finish wireless configuration.

Let me know what the control panel or app says—I’ll guide you step by step based on that. You’re doing everything right by catching this early—I’ll stay with you until it’s resolved.
