Hello,
At first, I had the “Tray empty or open” warning in HP Smart, but that issue is now gone.
However, even though there are no warnings anymore, the printer does not print anything.

I tested the printer on multiple devices to make sure it’s not a connection issue:
• I tried with two different phones (one iPhone with iOS and one Android phone).
In both cases, the HP Smart app connects successfully, but when I tap “Print,” it says “Print failed” or “Error” without any explanation.
• I also tested it on a Samsung Windows laptop — the printer connects fine but still fails to print.
• Now I am trying on my MacBook, and the situation is exactly the same: the printer is detected, shows as “Ready,” but it won’t start printing.

The Wi-Fi light on the printer is solid blue, and everything seems connected properly.
I have restarted the printer, cleared the print queue, and even reinstalled HP Smart, but the problem persists.

Could you please help me understand why the printer refuses to print even though the connection looks fine?
I can provide photos or logs if needed. Thank you so much.

Hi @Sirem28,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP printer is not printing even though no errors are shown, here are some steps you can take to resolve the issue.

Check Printer Connections:

  • Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your network or computer.
  • Check the printer’s connection type (Wi-Fi, USB, Ethernet), and verify that all cables are securely connected.

Restart the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 30 seconds before plugging it back in and turning it on.

Check Print Queue:

  • On your device, go to the print queue to see if there are any stuck print jobs.
  • Clear any pending print jobs and try printing again.

Update Printer Firmware and Drivers:

  • Visit the HP Support website to download the latest firmware and drivers for your printer model.
  • Install updates and restart your printer.

Printer Settings Check:

  • Ensure the correct printer is selected in the print dialog box on your devices.
  • Check the printer’s online status and set it as the default printer if applicable.

Check the Paper Tray and Ink/Toner Levels:

  • Make sure the paper is loaded correctly in the tray.
  • Check if there is enough ink or toner in the cartridges.

Use HP App Troubleshooter:

  • Open the HP app and use the built-in troubleshooter.
  • Follow any on-screen prompts to rectify the issue.

Reset the Printing System (Mac):

  • If you are using a Mac, reset the printing system by going to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Right-click or control-click the printer list, then choose "Reset printing system."

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
