Bought a set of genuine HP ink cartridges from PriceSmart and replaced the cyan since the others were between 50% and 20% ink. Updated the HP 9130 Pro printer to the latest firmware, but got a message saying, “ink cartridges low, change ink cartridges to continue printing.” After replacing the other cartridges, another error appeared: “continuous ink cartridge system detected, replace to continue printing.” Bought another complete set of color and black ink from PriceSmart, changed all the cartridges, but the message still pops up. Now the printer locks the entire menu right after the HP boot logo, and the touchpad is unresponsive. Tried the first set of ink again—still no fix. Spent $3000 TTD on two sets of ink and can’t print anything, right in the middle of Christmas with lots of holiday printing to do. Feeling frustrated. Help please

Hi @rick15636

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I can understand how upsetting it must be to invest in genuine cartridges and updates, only to have the printer lock up right when you need it most. Thank you for the careful steps you’ve already taken—it shows real persistence.

Let’s go through a few actions that can help bring your HP OfficeJet Pro 9130 back to life:

Power reset with cartridges removed

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Open the cartridge access door and remove all cartridges.
  • Leave the printer unplugged for at least 2 minutes.
  • Plug it back in, power on, and wait until the printer asks for cartridges.
  • Reinstall the cartridges one by one, ensuring each clicks firmly into place.

Check cartridge seating and contacts

  • Remove each cartridge again and gently wipe the copper contacts with a lint‑free cloth slightly moistened with distilled water.
  • Allow them to dry completely before reinstalling.
  • This helps clear any misread signals that can trigger “continuous ink system detected.”

Firmware reinstall

  • On your Windows PC, open the HP App.
  • Go to your printer settings and check for firmware updates.
  • If the latest firmware is already installed, reinstall it to refresh the printer’s recognition logic.

Clear stuck jobs and reset printing system (Windows)

  • Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right‑click your printer, select “See what’s printing,” and cancel all jobs.
  • Remove the printer from Devices and Printers, then re‑add it.
  • This ensures the computer isn’t holding the printer in a paused state.

Hard reset sequence

  • With the printer powered on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord directly to a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).
  • Power on and check if the touchscreen responds.

Test with minimal setup

  • Install only the black cartridge first and see if the printer passes the startup screen.
  • Then add the color cartridges one at a time.
  • This helps identify if a single cartridge is triggering the lock.

These steps should help clear the lockout and restore printing. If the touchscreen remains unresponsive after all of this, you can still use the HP App on your computer to attempt printing while the printer initializes.
