Hi @irondoc,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
We understand your HP Smart Tank 6001 All-in-One Printer is showing a flashing exclamation mark (!) and a flashing printhead icon with a single dot, and you're unable to print. We're here to help resolve this for you.
These indicators typically mean the printer is detecting a printhead issue, often due to improper installation, missing ink, or a blocked nozzle.
Step 1: Check Ink Levels
- Make sure all ink tanks are filled above the minimum fill line.
- If any tank is low, carefully refill it using the correct HP ink bottles.
Step 2: Reseat the Printheads
- Turn on the printer.
- Lift the top lid of the printer to access the printhead area.
- Wait for the carriage to stop moving.
- Gently press the blue latch to open the printhead access cover.
- Remove both printheads (black and tri-color).
- Inspect the electrical contacts—they should be clean and free of ink or debris.
- Reinsert the printheads firmly until they click into place.
- Close the blue latch and then the printer lid.
🔁 After reseating, the printer may go through an initialization process. Allow it to complete before trying to print again.
Step 3: Check for Error Messages in HP Smart
- Open the HP Smart app on your Windows 11 device.
- Select your printer.
- If there’s an error message or alert, it will show under the printer status.
- Follow any on-screen prompts.
Step 4: Clean the Printheads (If Flashing Continues)
- From the printer’s control panel or the HP Smart app, go to:
- Printer Settings > Tools > Clean Printheads
- Run the cleaning cycle.
- Try printing a test page.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
