Hi @irondoc,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

We understand your HP Smart Tank 6001 All-in-One Printer is showing a flashing exclamation mark (!) and a flashing printhead icon with a single dot, and you're unable to print. We're here to help resolve this for you.

These indicators typically mean the printer is detecting a printhead issue, often due to improper installation, missing ink, or a blocked nozzle.

Step 1: Check Ink Levels

  1. Make sure all ink tanks are filled above the minimum fill line.
  2. If any tank is low, carefully refill it using the correct HP ink bottles.

Step 2: Reseat the Printheads

  1. Turn on the printer.
  2. Lift the top lid of the printer to access the printhead area.
  3. Wait for the carriage to stop moving.
  4. Gently press the blue latch to open the printhead access cover.
  5. Remove both printheads (black and tri-color).
  6. Inspect the electrical contacts—they should be clean and free of ink or debris.
  7. Reinsert the printheads firmly until they click into place.
  8. Close the blue latch and then the printer lid.

🔁 After reseating, the printer may go through an initialization process. Allow it to complete before trying to print again.

Step 3: Check for Error Messages in HP Smart

  1. Open the HP Smart app on your Windows 11 device.
  2. Select your printer.
  3. If there’s an error message or alert, it will show under the printer status.
  4. Follow any on-screen prompts.

Step 4: Clean the Printheads (If Flashing Continues)

  1. From the printer’s control panel or the HP Smart app, go to:
    • Printer Settings > Tools > Clean Printheads
  2. Run the cleaning cycle.
  3. Try printing a test page.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
