Trying to scan I get the message that the scanner cannot communicate with the computer. I found a "fix" from Provost. followed the nstructions, i.e. scrubbed-uninstalled, downloaded the the advised download, but when I tried to install it I get the message: This volume does not meet the requirements for this update. So now I am left with a softwareless and thus unusuable printer. Please help. Operating system is Snow Leopard 10.6.8

Sorry about the difficulties getting your printer working with your Mac. It's unclear from your question which software you downloaded. Have you downloaded and installed the software here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-106177-4&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en...
Please try that and post your results.

Hello and welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that you are no longer able to print/scan from your computer to HP Printer as your computer is not able to communicate.
1. Restart your printer/scanner.
2. Check power and USB cable, make sure they are connected properly.
3. Perform power cycle as it generally fixes 70% issues with printer/ scanner.
4. Reinstall updated drivers on your computer.
5. check if there any firmware updates that are available for your printer/ scanner.
