Hi @Rehtra,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
The issue you're experiencing with your HP Envy Inspire 7258e All-in-One Printer not allowing the selection of the photo tray may be caused by a conflicting printer setting. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:
1. Check Printer Settings in Printer Driver (Windows)
- Open the Control Panel and go to Devices and Printers.
- Right-click on your HP Envy Inspire 7258e and select Printing Preferences.
- In the Paper/Quality tab, ensure that the Paper Source is set to Photo Tray and that the paper type is set to Photo Paper.
- Make sure the paper size selected matches the paper loaded in the photo tray (e.g., 4x6 inches).
- Click Apply and then OK to save the settings.
2. Set Paper Type and Source in Print Dialog (Windows/Mac)
When printing, you must select the photo tray from the print dialog:
- Open the document or photo you want to print and select File > Print.
- In the print settings window:
- For Windows: Go to Printer Properties or Preferences, then set the Paper Source to Photo Tray and the Media Type to Photo Paper.
- For Mac: Select the Paper Feed option and choose Photo Tray. Ensure the Media Type is also set to Photo Paper.
- Ensure the Paper Size is set to the correct dimensions for the photo tray (typically 4x6 inches).
- Try printing again.
3. Disable "Let the Printer Determine Paper Type" Setting
Some printer drivers automatically select the paper source based on the detected paper type, which can cause conflicts. Disabling this feature can give you more control.
- Open Printer Properties from Devices and Printers.
- Go to the Advanced tab and look for a setting like Let the printer determine paper type or Automatic paper source selection.
- Disable this setting so that you can manually select the photo tray.
4. Check HP Smart App (Mobile/Windows)
If you're printing from the HP Smart app, make sure the app settings are configured to use the photo tray:
- Open the HP Smart app on your device.
- Select your printer, and then go to Print Settings.
- In the Paper Tray section, manually select Photo Tray.
- Set the correct Paper Size and Media Type (Photo Paper).
Please find the remaining steps in the next post.
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

Hi @Rehtra ,
Please find the remaining steps below.
5. Ensure Photo Tray is Loaded Correctly
Make sure the photo tray is loaded with the correct paper and that the paper size matches what you've selected in the print settings:
- Load 4x6 photo paper into the photo tray.
- Make sure the paper size settings on your printer match the photo paper size.
- Check that the photo tray is fully inserted and locked into place.
6. Update Printer Firmware
Updating your printer’s firmware can sometimes resolve issues with printer settings:
- Download the latest firmware for your HP Envy Inspire 7258e from the HP Support website.
- Install the update and restart both the printer and your computer.
7. Reset Printer Settings
If the issue persists, resetting the printer’s settings may help:
- On your printer’s control panel, navigate to Setup or Settings.
- Look for the Restore Factory Defaults option and select it.
- Once the reset is complete, set up your printer again and attempt to select the photo tray for printing.
8. Check Printer Queue and Restart Printer
Sometimes, printer jobs stuck in the queue can interfere with new print settings:
- Go to Devices and Printers on your computer.
- Right-click on your printer and select See what's printing.
- Cancel any stuck print jobs.
- Restart your printer and try printing again.
9. Reinstall Printer Drivers
If none of the above steps work, reinstalling the printer drivers might fix the issue:
- Uninstall the printer from your computer.
- Go to the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your printer.
- Reinstall the printer and check if the issue is resolved.
If the problem persists after trying all the steps above, it may be time to contact HP Phone Support for further assistance.
Keep me posted for further assistance
