Hi @tempanylea11 ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP DeskJet 3721 All-In-One Printer is displaying an "error state" message, there could be several reasons behind it.
Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue:
Check for Hardware Issues:
- Ensure that all cables connecting the printer to your computer are properly plugged in.
- Make sure there is paper in the paper tray and that there are no paper jams.
- Check if there are any error lights or messages on the printer's control panel that might provide additional information about the problem.
Restart Printer and Computer:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 1-2 minutes.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
- Restart your computer.
Update Printer Drivers:
- Outdated or corrupted printer drivers can cause communication errors between your computer and the printer. Update the printer drivers to the latest version available from the HP website. HP DeskJet 3721 All-in-One Printer Software and Driver
Check Printer Spooler Service:
- Press Windows Key + R to open the Run dialog box.
- Type services.msc and press Enter.
- Locate the "Print Spooler" service in the list.
- Right-click on it and select "Restart".
- Check if the printer is working now.
Clear Print Queue:
- Open the Control Panel on your computer.
- Go to Devices and Printers.
- Right-click on your HP DeskJet 3721 printer and select "See what's printing".
- Click on "Printer" in the top menu and select "Cancel All Documents".
- Confirm the action and try printing again.
Check for Software Conflicts:
- Sometimes, third-party software or security programs can interfere with the printer's functionality. Try temporarily disabling antivirus or firewall programs and see if the printer works.
Reset the Printer:
- You can also try resetting the printer to its factory defaults. This process usually involves pressing a combination of buttons on the printer. Refer to the printer's manual or HP's support website for instructions specific to your model.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
