HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911 a
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I don't know if i posted this in the correct place before (?) 90 people viewed it but no comments?

So, I'm guessing it's either a very stupid question or very hard question?

this is a little different version below.

I have windows 10 pro (64 bit); no issues or problems; no viruses; fully updated, etc. I use the printer hardwired; not through wi fi.

I have an HP Officejet Pro 8600; I don't use this via wifi either.

When I plug the printer cord into the computer, the printer shows up as:

"USB Drive  in  "This PC"

I did end up uninstalling and reinstalling; but it didn't help; what am I doing wrong?

Anyway, is it supposed to show up this way?

Is this ok?

I've been told that it should not show up like that and that it could cause issues with other things....

Is there any reason why it's showing up that way?

thanks

Hi,

The printer should appear as a storage device under This PC, this is well expected for your printer model which offers a USB host feature, a USB Stick inserted into the printer would be accessed from a computer there.

Regardless, the printer would appear under Devices & Printers as a print queue and can be used for printing.

Please let us know if you experience any issues or any problems printing to your printer.

Cheers,

Shlomi

Hi,

thanks for replying!

So, you're saying my printer offers a "USB host feature"? What does that mean?

Does it mean you can stick a USB stick into my printer (I think you're saying...I didn't know that!) .

I don't see any place on my printer where I could stick a thumb drive into (is a usb stick same as a thumb drive?)

the printer is appearing under "devices and drives" not "devices and printers". Is that ok?

thanks

You’re much welcome @denise14107.

It’s USB Host port is located at the front of your printer in the left side (see Figure 4):

You may  print photos directly from a Thumb Drive or scan to a such, as well accessing the stored file from a computer for such functionality.

The printer may appear under Devices & Printers or other Devices too, this depends on the operating system . Please fry printing from the computer and ensure its functionality, are you able to print to the printer or may experience any difficulties?

thank you so much!

I clicked on the button that it was helpful : )

I never noticed that usb slot because I've had a tissue box in front of that forever! yikes....

so I had no idea I could do that; and I'm happy to know that nothing is wrong....and it appears as it should...

it appears to work so far! : )
