I have an HP Officejet 4655 that is set up for wireless printing. I've has the printer over a year. The past 3 weeks it has stopped printing sporadically. The Hp print and support doctor could not fix the problem. Sometimes, I can get the printer to work by turning it off and on. Other times I have to turn the printer off and turn my router off, turn router back on, then turn printer back on. This is very annoying. Any suggestions as to how to solve the issue permanently?

Hello Jeet,
Thank you for responsing. I started following your directions (they were very clear) to assign a static IP. After I clicked on wireless (802.11), the radio button was already on manual IP and the Manual DNS Server. I stopped there. Any suggestions?
Thanks Jane 1213

Kudos to you for trying out the steps before reaching out to us.
Hard reset on the printer, router, computer and other devices on the same network.
The following steps temporarily disconnect network and Internet connections and require restarting your computer. Complete any tasks or downloads in progress before continuing.
1. Press the Power button on the printer to turn it off.
2. Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
3. Disconnect the power cord from the wireless router.
4. Turn off the computer.
5. Wait for 30 seconds.
6. Reconnect the power cord to the wireless router.
7. Wait for 30 seconds, or until the router is fully on and ready
8. Turn the computer back on.
9. Wait for the computer to reload
10. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
11. Turn the printer back on.
Let’s try assigning a static IP to try and fix this issue. Follow the steps below:
- Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to get the IP address.
- Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
- Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
- Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
- Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
- Click on radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)
Once done, reinstall the printer drivers. Follow the steps below:
- Unplug the USB cable from the printer and computer if present.
- Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Envy printer entries and uninstall them.
- Restart your computer.
- Now click on http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/COL61230/mp-147816-1/OJ4650_Full_WebPack_1122.exe to download and install the updated printer drivers.
- In the connection type window, select “Wireless” and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

HI @Jane1213,
Thanks for the update!
I'd then recommend you assign a static IP address on the printer. Here are the steps:
• Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to get the IP address.
• Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
• Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
• Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
• Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
• Click on radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)
Once done, assign the IP address to the printer port.
Go to - Control panel - Devices and printers -> Right-click on your printer and select Printer properties.
Now, go to Ports tab -> New port -> TCP IP port -> and enter the static IP address and finish the setup.
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!
Good luck 🙂

I have a HP Laserjet Pro M254dw at home connected to my network. (it is not directly connected to my Mac) Yes I have an iMac. It constantly stops printing. The document is in the queue BUT it doesn't print. I have done repeated installs. Downloaded new drivers, and deleted printers in the preference pane. I believe what I need to do is assign a specific IP address for this printer, BUT I don't know how to do it. PLEASE HELP. My wife keeps calling me when it is not working and I get the &^%$# letters in cap...
