Hi @EBiffany,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Dealing with a persistent paper jam error can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to resolve the issue.
- Turn off the printer: Start by turning off your HP Envy 6458e printer and unplugging it from the power source. This ensures your safety while you work on resolving the issue.
- Clear any jammed paper: Open the printer cover and carefully remove any paper that may be stuck inside. Be thorough in checking for any small shreds of paper or debris that could be causing the jam.
- Check paper path: Inspect the paper path to ensure there are no obstructions. Sometimes small pieces of torn paper or foreign objects can get stuck in the rollers or other mechanisms, causing the jam error to persist.
- Reset the printer: After clearing the jam and checking for obstructions, reset the printer by leaving it unplugged for a few minutes. This can help clear any temporary issues that may be causing the error.
- Update firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer on the HP website. Updating the firmware can sometimes fix bugs or issues that may be causing the paper jam error.
- Inspect sensors: There are usually sensors inside the printer that detect paper jams. Make sure these sensors are clean and not obstructed by any debris. Use a can of compressed air to gently blow out any dust or debris that may be present.
- Check for mechanical issues: If the problem persists, there may be a mechanical issue with the printer, such as a faulty sensor or a problem with the rollers.
- Paper quality and type: Ensure you are using the correct type and quality of paper for your printer. Using low-quality or incompatible paper can sometimes lead to frequent jams.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
