@sgp3799, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Paper Detection Error on HP OfficeJet Pro 7740!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 is showing an error indicating there's no paper when there is indeed paper in the printer, here are some steps you can follow to resolve this issue:

Check the Paper Tray:

  • Ensure that the paper is properly loaded in the tray. The paper should be aligned correctly and not overfilled.
  • Check if the paper guides are set snugly against the edges of the paper stack.

Paper Quality and Type:

  • Ensure you are using the correct type and size of paper. Certain types of paper might not be detected correctly by the sensors.

Inspect for Jams or Obstructions:

  • Open the printer and check for any paper jams or obstructions that might be causing the sensor to misread the paper tray status.

Printer Settings:

  • Verify that the settings in the print driver match the paper loaded in the printer. Sometimes mismatches can cause this error.

Reload Paper:

  • Remove the paper from the tray, straighten the stack, and reload it into the tray ensuring the paper guides are correctly positioned.

Printer Reset:

  • Turn off the printer, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on. This may reset any sensors that are misreading the paper tray.

Firmware Update:

  • Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer model which may address this issue. You can find updates on the HP Support website.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
