Microsoft Windows 11

I have tried all of the previously posted fixes including various methods of unplugging, holding down the power button.  Any ideas?

@Nana819, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to help resolve the issue where your HP ENVY Photo 7855 All-in-One Printer gets stuck at the first dot during boot-up:

Power Reset (Hard Reset)

Even if you've tried this, please follow these exact steps:

  • With the printer powered on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait for 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet directly (avoid power strips).
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn the printer on if it doesn’t power up automatically.

This clears residual power and can reset internal hardware faults.

Check for Hardware Faults

If the printer still freezes at the first dot:

  • Remove all cartridges from the printer.
  • Disconnect any USB or Ethernet cables.
  • Try powering on the printer without cartridges or connections.
  • If it boots past the first dot, one of the cartridges or connections may be faulty.

Use HP Smart’s Diagnose & Fix Tool

If the printer is recognized by your PC:

  • Download and install the HP Smart app.
  • Open the app and click “Diagnose & Fix” (bottom left corner on Windows).
  • Follow the on-screen instructions.

Diagnose & Fix in HP Smart

Firmware Recovery (if accessible)

If the printer screen is responsive:

  • Go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update the Printer.
  • If not accessible, skip to the next step.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
