I was recently working with turbo tax.  My HP printer or turbo tax insisted on printing an earlier version of my tax return, not the final one. This was true even when I printed from a PDF that appeared completely correct. The program or printer would not print the recent version. Though I was able to solve that by emailing the PDF to another computer and printing to another printer, my HP printer, on its own, started to "cancel print."  Unfortunately, its stuck in that canceling print mode for two days. I'm not able to print anything. I cannot turn off the printer using the power button. Even though the printer warns not to turn off the printer at the power strip, I felt forced to try that. When I turned the printer back on a day later, it is still in the "canceling print" mode (that's the message that appears on my printer).

My thought is that there was something my computer or printer did not like about Turbo tax and this problem occurred while I was trying to print while in turbo tax. So, that's why I mention turbo tax but it may be unrelated.

If you have not yet done so, try:

Restart services

Cancel Print Jobs in the Printer Queue

  • Stop Print Spooler Service
  • Remove files from C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS
  • Start Print Spooler Service

Considering that the issue is stubborn, you might choose the method (in the document) that includes rebooting the computer.
