Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

everything was working fine until a week ago, all was hooked up, printing just fine from laptop. Then, just the printer from the laptop gave up. I can scan just fine, I can print a test page directly from the printer, but, I cant from the laptop. I turned everything off, internet, printer, laptop, & rebooted, still nothing.

When I try to print from the laptop it says :error printer is offline"

But, when you print the setup page I have a solid internet light that says wi-fi is hooked up & all systems are ok.

Hi @mikeyray,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the issue lies in the connection between your laptop and the printer, even though the printer itself is functioning properly. Here are a few steps to troubleshoot the problem.

Check Printer Status in Windows Settings (for Windows users)

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Locate your printer and check if it says "Offline." If so:
    • Right-click the printer and select Set as default printer.
    • Right-click again and uncheck Use Printer Offline (if checked).

Clear Print Queue

  • Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click your printer and select See what’s printing.
  • If any jobs are stuck, cancel them, then try printing again.

Run the Printer Troubleshooter

  • Open Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
  • Select Printer and run the troubleshooter.

Re-add the Printer

  • Remove the printer:
    • Go to Devices > Printers & scanners, select your printer, and choose Remove device.
  • Re-add it:
    • Click Add a printer or scanner and wait for Windows to find your printer again. Select it and install any drivers if prompted.

Check Printer IP Address

  • Print a Network Configuration or Wireless Test Report from your printer’s control panel (this will vary by model).
  • Confirm the IP address shown is the same one the laptop is using to communicate with the printer.
    • In Devices & Printers, right-click your printer and select Printer Properties.
    • Under the Ports tab, check the port name and compare it with the IP address from the report.
    • If they are different, manually update the port to match the printer's current IP address.

Update Printer Drivers

  • Visit the HP Support website and search for your printer model.
  • Download and install the latest drivers for your operating system.
  • After updating, try printing again.

Check Printer Settings in HP Smart App

  • Open the HP Smart App and ensure the printer is showing as online.
  • If not, try reconfiguring the wireless connection through the app.
  • Perform a wireless connection test within the app to ensure everything is connected properly.

Restart Router

  • Sometimes the router’s connection can cause issues. Power cycle your router (turn it off and on), and then try printing again.

Assign a Static IP (Optional)

  • If your printer's IP address keeps changing, assign a static IP to ensure stable communication. This can be done through your router settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
