Hi @bror1,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I understand how confusing it can be when your HP printer goes from “offline” to “paper jam” and then gets turned off improperly. Let’s walk through a gentle recovery process to get your printer back on track.
Step-by-Step Recovery Guide
1. Clear the Paper Jam (Even If You Don’t See One)
Sometimes, even a tiny scrap of paper or a misaligned roller can trigger the jam error.
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Open all accessible areas: input tray, output tray, cartridge access door, and rear cleanout door.
- Use a flashlight to inspect for any paper bits or debris.
- Gently remove any visible paper; never pull forcefully.
- Clean the rollers with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
2. Restart the Printer Properly
- Plug the printer back in.
- Press the power button to turn it on.
- Wait for it to initialize fully before sending any print jobs.
3. Check Printer Status in Windows
- Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
- Select your printer → Click Open Queue.
- If it says Offline, right-click and choose Use Printer Online.
- Clear any stuck print jobs.
4. Run HP Smart App Diagnostics
- Open the HP Smart app on your PC or mobile device.
- Select your printer → Tap Diagnose & Fix.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to resolve connectivity and error issues.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
