Hi @Der1967,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
A "printhead problem" on a new HP Smart Tank 5105 can be frustrating. Here are some steps to help you resolve the issue.
Check Printhead Installation
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Open the printer to access the printheads.
- Ensure that the printheads are correctly installed. They should click into place securely.
- Check for any packaging material or protective tape that might still be on the printheads and remove it.
Clean the Printhead Contacts
- Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the printhead and the corresponding contacts inside the printer.
- Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinstalling the printhead.
Reset the Printer
- Unplug the printer from the power source while it is turned on.
- Wait for at least 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and power it on. This can sometimes clear temporary errors.
Update Printer Firmware
- Make sure your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check for updates using the HP Smart app or from the printer's embedded web server (EWS) if connected to the network.
Run Printer Diagnostics
- If the printer powers on, run a printhead cleaning or alignment process from the printer's menu or the HP Smart app.
Check for Air in Ink Lines
- Since the Smart Tank printers use ink tanks, check for air bubbles in the ink tubes. Follow the manual's instructions to resolve air blockages if needed.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
