Photosmart 6520, the carriage jam will not clear no matter what.  I have followed all the steps, even unplugged for a few days.  Nothing helps, the carriage moves freely by hand.

Hi @cglennrichardso,

I understand you are facing carriage jam issue on your HP Photosmart 6520 printer. I'll be really glad to help you with this,

A carriage jam is different than a paper jam.  The carriage is the mechanism that holds the printheads and moves back and forth across the page.  A carriage jam may indicate the carriage is blocked from moving of that there is a problem with the position sensor for the carriage.

☑️ Let's start by performing a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

* Remove all the Ink cartridges and then perform a Hard reset on the printer.

* With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

* Remove USB cable, if present.

* Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

* Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

* Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

* Now insert the ink cartridges and then try to print a test page and check if it works.

☑️ For more details, please follow the steps suggested in the support document for - Click here  Make sure you manually move the carriage as mentioned in solution 3 and also perform a partial reset on your printer as explained in solution six.

☑️ If the issue still persists, then the issue will be with the printer hardware. I would then suggest you to contact HP phone support to create a service for your printer. If the printer is out of warranty, you might be able to get some good upgrade options for the current printer. Please fill in the product details to get the tech support number.
