HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I am now getting the error message "Cartridge Problem" when powering up the printer.
at first i was getting message saying bad ink cartridge for Cyan and Magenta.
I am using HP cartridges purchased from Office Depot and am trying a second set replaced by them.
I have tried all the various solutions;
- Power off & unplug with network and USB cables removed
- update firmware, (it was current and could/would not install)
- clean electrical contacts
- Power on while pressing return button 4 times.  Which at first i was able to get to the support menu and do the semi-partial reset.
- power on while pressing and holding return and cancel button for recommended times.
- others i am sure.....
i recall  one time i saw a message saying i couldn't do a reset since it had a print job.  this was early on on and many resets after that to arrive at my current status
CURRENT STATUS . . . .
i can not get past  the error message regardless of pressing a variety of buttons i.e. cancel or return.  Previously i could.
I can not move the print head now with the machine on or off.
Opening the door does not move the print  head.
Cartridges are pressed fully in.
I feel like i need to do a full factory reset at this point.
Or perhaps there are other solutions i haven't located.
Thank you for your assistance.
Prior to getting to this point we had run out of cyan or Magenta and printed briefly a few documents in black and white mode.
we use the printer at least a couple of times a week, so it shouldn't be a non-use, dried up ink scenario.

Hi @VicH4,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I see that you are facing an issue with your printer that has an ink cartridge error.

Please follow the steps below to fix the issue.

A) Perform a power drain.

1) Take out the cartridges

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.

5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges

B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.

C) Refer to the steps on this link to further troubleshoot.

D) If the issue still persists, refer to the steps on this link to restore factory defaults and let me know if that resolves the issue.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I hope this helps.

Hi Irwin
Pretty sure i tried all the options above but was going to run through them
However, now, the cartridge carrier is over to the right and will not move to where i can remove the cartridges and i have a printer cartridge error on the screen i can not clear.
I have run through the power down, and power drain though but no changes.

I connected via web services and it will not allow me to reset to factory default settings.  I get a message saying  the printer is busy.

Any other ideas?

Thank you
