Hi @GlenBacon,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
We understand that your HP Photosmart 7520 e-All-in-One Printer is displaying a “General Printer Error” message that does not clear even after multiple restarts. We're here to assist you in resolving this issue.
1. Power Reset the Printer
- Turn the printer on, if it isn’t already.
- With the printer powered on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait for 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall and then reconnect it to the printer.
- Turn the printer back on and check for the error.
This resets internal hardware components and may clear temporary system faults.
2. Check for Carriage or Paper Path Obstruction
- Open the cartridge access door
- Gently move the ink carriage left and right (if possible)
- Remove any visible paper scraps, ink build-up, or obstruction
- Ensure the printhead latch is securely locked
3. Update or Reinstall Firmware (if accessible)
If the printer is responsive enough:
- Visit HP Software and Driver Downloads: HP Photosmart 7520 e-All-in-One Printer series Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support
- Download and install the latest firmware update
If the printer remains unresponsive or cannot be detected, skip this step.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
