Hi @GlenBacon,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

We understand that your HP Photosmart 7520 e-All-in-One Printer is displaying a “General Printer Error” message that does not clear even after multiple restarts. We're here to assist you in resolving this issue.

1. Power Reset the Printer

  1. Turn the printer on, if it isn’t already.
  2. With the printer powered on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  4. Wait for 60 seconds.
  5. Plug the power cord back into the wall and then reconnect it to the printer.
  6. Turn the printer back on and check for the error.

This resets internal hardware components and may clear temporary system faults.

2. Check for Carriage or Paper Path Obstruction

  • Open the cartridge access door
  • Gently move the ink carriage left and right (if possible)
  • Remove any visible paper scraps, ink build-up, or obstruction
  • Ensure the printhead latch is securely locked

3. Update or Reinstall Firmware (if accessible)

If the printer is responsive enough:

If the printer remains unresponsive or cannot be detected, skip this step.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
